I almost didn’t watch this cover of The Sound of Silence because it seemed such a strange mix… Disturbed singing a Simon & Garfunkel song? Huh?
But, I did. And it was the best thing to happen to me all day. This performance moved me to the core.
After watching the video several times (there may have been tears… haha!), it made me realize 2 things…
First. The natural course of life inevitably leads to reinvention… if you let it. I have a habit of worrying about everything, and one of my biggest concerns is the future and what will happen when the things I’m doing now stop working. What will I do then?
Time will shape me, just like it shaped Disturbed and led them to create this beautiful arrangement… I never imagined this band would someday perform in this style and move me to tears.
Second. I need to listen to more music. I hadn’t felt this kind of comfort in a long time because I’ve been trying to write original music, and it’s going… well, not as great as I would like. I need to remember that music in general lifts me up. Other people’s music was what encouraged me to try to start writing my own, I can’t lock myself up in a cave and expect to weave songs out of uninspired silence and loneliness.
Thank you, Disturbed, for such a chilling performance. And thank you for reminding me to stop locking myself up in my own mind and heart.
not bad at all 🙂April 10, 2016 at 1:23 pm
It is amazing how a band like Disturbed can bring a classic song of the 60’s into the 21st century. David Draiman’s interview of this song is also a must listen,June 26, 2016 at 1:50 pm
Yes! The interview was great to listen to!!! 😀 I’m glad you like this cover, Steve!July 12, 2016 at 4:14 pm
Wow, i really like it, just reminds me some covers of music bands than u really don’t think that they could do these kind of covers ^^. (like Dream a Little Dream of Me or To France made by Blind Guardian)April 13, 2016 at 8:02 am
Yeah I just discovered this cover as well and I absolutely love it, been listening to it almost every day now. Would absolutely love to hear you do a cover of it 😛April 20, 2016 at 3:40 pm
It’s so cool that you like this cover, too. I did think for a second about covering the cover… hahaha! But I think their recording is so, soooo special that it makes me just want to enjoy it as it is and not try to rerecord it. 🙂April 21, 2016 at 2:57 pm
That was so beautifully done.
As with his other music, this song is wrought with passion!
Thank you for this.April 29, 2016 at 12:39 pm
BTW I have listening to you for over two years.
My kids love you too!
I think you are a really good-hearted person!☺
Hi, Sarai! Thank you so much for your message 😀 I send you and your kids a big hug from Mexico! 😀April 29, 2016 at 7:57 pm
My mother had introduced me to this a few months ago. I loved it immediately. I’m a Kindergarten teacher and when my students are getting there things and getting in their places for their nap I played the Simon and Garfunkel version. After I was introduced to the Disturbed version I made the change and the kids loved it. It truly is a work of art. I still love the original too. Now I have two great versions to enjoy.April 29, 2016 at 4:14 pm
Oooh, it’s so cool to know that your students loved both versions! 😀 It’s such a beautiful song. 🙂April 29, 2016 at 8:00 pm
Love disturbed didn’t think they could do the slow stuff but this has got to be the best cover I have heard in years. It’s just beautiful!April 29, 2016 at 7:51 pm
It was so unexpected for me, too! I’m glad you like it!!!April 29, 2016 at 7:53 pm
Rolled my eyes, when I heard the introduction on Sirius a while back. Then as Draiman started singing, I was brought back to the original, emotions and all. Very well done cover.
I need to stop being judgmental before knowing what I am even being judgmental about 🙂April 30, 2016 at 9:37 pm
I completely understand! I was initially skeptical, too! 😀 It’s good to be aware that there is always a chance we will be surprised! 😀May 1, 2016 at 3:16 am

haha! Thanks for the compliments and encouragement, Braulio! 😀 I hope you have a great week!May 30, 2016 at 2:17 am
Glad to know I wasn’t the only one skeptical. Don’t get me wrong, love Disturbed. Have the majority of their albums, especially the Immortalized album which this song is on. But knowing this was Simon and Garfunkel they were doing took me aback.
It is actually pretty incredible how a few of Disturbed’s songs that I know of are actually covers of other groups or artists. Like Land of Confusion. Till recently, I didn’t know that was a song sung by Phil Collins when he was still apart of Genesis.
If you are interested, this was an interview with the lead singer explaining a summary of him going in tackling the song.May 1, 2016 at 7:54 pm
Oooh, thank you so much for this link! 😀May 30, 2016 at 2:17 am
Turning up volume, closing eyes, sitting back, waiting for that big crescendo, Little tear on my cheek. Well done Disturbed. This song is EPIC. Thanks for sharing Malukah, Greetings from the NetherlandsMay 27, 2016 at 2:19 pm
Yes, this is the correct way to listen! haha! I have this song on repeat still. 😀May 30, 2016 at 2:20 am
Hi Judith, initially I just wanted to say thank for suggesting this surprising musical gem to us. Then I realized I want to tell you so much more.
I think you’re a very inspiring artist, and a beautiful person. I like your voice and covers so much, especially the ones from Skyrim and Mass Effect. But your collaboration with Peter Hollins on the song Baba Yetu really hit me at the core. Also when I let my mother hear it, she thought it was very special as well. I just created an account on LOUDR solely to be able to download the song in FLAC quality (i’m a bit of an audiophile). And listening to it on repeat for the last hour it keeps on giving me goosebumps all over my spine. Thank you for your amazing work.
I was wondering, are you planning to upload the ME and Skyrim songs in FLAC as well?May 27, 2016 at 6:48 pm
Hi, Gwylan! Thanks for such a beautiful message! And please say hello and thank you to you mom, too! I’m glad she liked Baba Yetu. 😀 I do hope to upload the rest of the covers on Loudr so they are available in FLAC quality. 😀May 30, 2016 at 2:21 am
the merge of Disturbed’s voice and this mythical song is simply gorgeous !May 29, 2016 at 2:22 pm
Thanks Malu !
Yay! I’m glad you liked it, too! 😀May 30, 2016 at 2:16 am
Many people don’t know this isn’t the first slow, emotional song like this Disturbed has done. Their first song like this was Darkness, hidden away at the end of their second album released back in 2002 and rarely performed live. David, the singer, said Darkness didn’t seem to be loved by most fans so they shied away from doing a piece like that for a while until this. I personally always adored Darkness as much as any of their other songs and was so ecstatic to hear David using his voice this way again. As a massive fan of both Disturbed and you Malukah, I’m so glad you liked it!June 22, 2016 at 5:45 am
Thanks for letting me know about Darkness! I am listening to it know while writing this reply. It’s beautiful!June 24, 2016 at 4:07 pm

You are better.
hehe! 😀 I feel very honored that they made this arrangment! 😀June 24, 2016 at 4:05 pm
I just watched the link, and have to agree with Hennag. Though epic, the symphony’s version doesn’t sound as earthy & organic as yours. Sabina sings it beautifully, but YOUR voice and version are absolutely mesmerizing. I haven’t decided yet if you voice is that of a siren, an angel, or perhaps a bit of both.July 6, 2016 at 6:33 am
Talking about the Skyrim cover link, not the S&G cover by Disturbed (which was beyond epic).July 6, 2016 at 6:35 am
Thank you for the compliment! 😀 She does sing it beautifully! I think we are just very used to my voice singing this song… even for me, it feels a bit strange to hear someone else sing it! hahahaha! But I love her performance and the gorgeous symphony! 😀July 12, 2016 at 4:13 pm
This is the soundtrack to the new Gears of War game. I think it fit very well with the trailer.June 30, 2016 at 3:35 am
I was so happy when I watched the trailer for the first time and realized they had used this song! 😀July 12, 2016 at 4:14 pm
Genial. Simplemente genial. Y geniales pensamientos además, hay mucha razón en lo que dices acerca del tiempo y de como uno se reinventa como persona y en tu bellísimo caso, como artista.July 7, 2016 at 6:04 pm
Gracias por contestar, Manuel. Me da mucho gusto saber que compartimos este punto de vista del paso del tiempo! Qué bueno que te gustó el cover de Disturbed!July 12, 2016 at 4:09 pm
Es un genial cover. Gracias por compartirlo junto con tus pensamientos. Un abrazo Malu.July 17, 2016 at 10:49 pm
